Tourists, local residents and school children enjoy wonderful exhibits that focus on regional history while visitors from across the United States use the resources of the Wilbur Smith Research Library and Archives. ~~~~~~~ Discovery Place Children's Museum (c. 1890; 1939; 1991) A member of the Arkansas Discovery Network, this hands-on museum offers interactive science and history exhibits. It is one of the areas's best attractions for children and adults! Inside there is a living science lab, exhibits on pioneer life, health, the dynamics of communiciation, electricity and sound. Discovery Place hosts frequent traveling exhibits on exciting and fun topics such as GPS technology, space exploration, optical illusions, physics and more. The buildings that make up Discovery Place include the 1890 Western Union telegraph office and the old Bryce's Cafeteria building.
~~~~~~~ Draughon-Moore Ace of Clubs House (1885) Built in the shape of a playing card club, this unique Victorian Erahome is one of the grandest living history attractions in the area. The enclosed property is a premier venue for weddings, receptions and other events. The Italianate home draws visitors from all across the world and has been featured on national television specials such as Bob Vilas' Guide to Historic Homes, and HGTV's Christmas Castles. ~~~~~~~ The Wilbur Smith Research Library and Archives Housed in MoRH, this collection of documents, photos and memorabilia presents a unique picture of life in Texarkana during the 19th and 20th Centuries. Items date from the 1820s to the 1990s and cover such diverse topics as business, social life, and wartime. Featured collections include over 11,000 photographic images, the most complete set of Texarkana City Directories (1899-2010) in the area and vintage recordings. ~~~~~~~ P.J. Ahern Home (1905) The newest addition to the Texarkana Museums System is the historic Patrick J. Ahern home located in the heart of the Quality Hill historic district. This early 20th Century home has never been altered, still retaining it's original gas & electric combination light fixtures, oak wood work and floors. The six ornate fireplaces in the home are each different and feature Italian tile and oak mantles.
